SES Update: April 11, 2017

Dear Parents,

As the trees begin to bloom and the weather turns to spring, I am grateful for the beauty around me. I feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful place with such a warm community of neighbors.

I would like to share with you a couple of cool things going on tomorrow and in the future:

Wednesday, April 12 (5-7 pm) at SES:  SOLE (Schools and Outdoor Learning Environments) Family Nature Night (Families of 3rd and 4th Graders, primarily, but no one will be turned away!) This is through our GOCO Playground Grant and free to all attendees. We will have free pizza, learn how to fly cast for fish, engage in science/social studies hands-on activities for students and families, and a raffle at 6 pm for cool prizes.

Monday, April 24: 4-6 pm at SES Fine Arts/Science/Spanish Family Night at SES (A night to remember!):
    • Art Show
    • Family Art in cafeteria
    • Book Fair by Lori in library
    • Bel Canto choir singing in the halls by Mr. D.
    • Spanish class skits in Ms. Houchin's classroom
    • Huge hands on science fair with Ms. Dungan in the gym with live owl, and many science activities.

Friday, April 28: No school for students or staff

If you are a going to be a student at SES next year, you will receive a form asking for parental input on classroom placement for next year. Look for this by the end of the week and return it to our office. Thanks for the feedback!

Finally, I welcome Mr. Dave Lindenberg as our new principal for next year. I look forward to working with you, our parents, Dave and our faculty as we make the transition to a smaller school seamless and exciting.

Warm regards,

Kathy Whiting, SES Principal

  • A track around the playground with 'crusher fine, or 'Breeze' rock' (that makes the track accessible) with large boulders marking every 100 feet (5 times around = 1 mile).
  • A LARGE toy in the middle with several slides, climbing areas.
  • A balancing toy.
  • Some of the current toys (Some have to be taken away because they are no longer to code...we can't even give them away!)

SES Update: January 1, 2017

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!

It's been a wonderful first half of the year.  With our FunD Run monies, we were able to help purchase a ZipLine for our new playground. We also purchased a classroom set of snowshoes; which should arrive in early January! Thanks for a cool 'school sale program', we were able to get the snowshoes at half price! Stay tuned as we share other wonderful purchases we are able to make for kids this winter!

This year promises lots of exciting events at SES. Thanks to the bond issue recently passed, we will be converting from a larger school community to an even-more-awesome small Pre-k through 5th grade school community. We are hoping to add one toddler room and three preschool classrooms. It will be wonderful to bring back our preschool classrooms. Stay tuned for opportunities for parent input...which is essential to a successful school community.

This spring, we will host a ground-breaking ceremony on our new playground. In the meantime, we will be posting 'mock-ups' of the new playground in the foyer for your perusal. We will also send more detailed information home this month.

School resumes this early release Wednesday, January 4.

Thank you for all that you do for our kids and school. I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

SES Update: 12/22/16

Dear Parents,

Something wonderful happens today! Yesterday was the shortest day of the year. Today begins the march towards spring and longer days. Yay! I hope you are enjoying the sunshine and the snow during this holiday break.

It seems like the holiday busyness frequently takes away from rituals and routines; which can sometimes make kids (and adults) cranky. Those rituals and routines are valuable even during holiday breaks.  Daily reading time with your child builds bonds that last forever. It still warms my heart and makes me smile when I remember reading with my kids. Oh yeah...don't forget the academic benefits, too.

Please take note that school resumes on early release Wednesday, January 4.

Thanks to all of you who have made a big impact on the first half of our school year...whether you brought/sent goodies to a class party, helped count box tops, supported the FunD Run, Wellness Week, actively participated in PTA events or volunteered to help out in the classroom...know that you are appreciated.  I can't wait to see what we can do for kids in 2017!

Have a blessed holiday,

Kathy Whiting, Principal

SES Update 11-30-16

Dear Parents,

Brrrr! We finally found the snow and cold of our Colorado winter.  Our weather is unpredictable in Colorado. One moment the snow might be falling and wind blowing; the next moment will be bluebird skies and sunshine. Please be sure that your child comes to school prepared for our amazing climate. Write your child's name and teacher's name inside outerwear garments with a marker so we can return lost items.

Here's a few upcoming events:

Tonight,  December 2:  6-8 pm:  SES Movie Night (The Polar Express)  Hot dogs and hot cocoa served!

Wednesday, December 7:  5:30-7 pm:  Playground Design Advisory Group Meeting

Below is a message from Barb Parks from the community center regarding activities during winter break. Enjoy!
